DESCRIPTION:Much shibari instruction focuses on technique or instruction\, usually limited to single ties or transitions between them. In this class\, we will walk through the basics of how to construct a rope scene from before the ropes go on to after they come off. \nOne of the most powerful aspects of kinbaku is the ability to create layers of intensity\, allowing the bottom to build up a natural flow of endorphins and adrenaline\, allowing the scene to reach deeper levels. We will discuss the process of building your scene\, bringing the various elements together\, and the psychology of a rope scene\, including connection\, communication\, distance\, and pacing. \nThe class is mainly lecture\, viewing and discussion.  There is 20-30 mins at the end of class to tie and try some of the things discussed in lecture. \nA great rope scene is more than the sum of its parts. SUMMARY:Online Class: Searching for the Heart of Kinbaku: A History of Japanese Rope and the People Who Created It
DESCRIPTION:Register Online at Voxbody\nThe history of kinbaku in Japan is a story that has been told many times. It has also been the site of conflict and struggle for grounding what kinbaku means today. Is it a noble and artistic pursuit following the glorious traditions of the ancient samurai? Is it dirty\, sexual\, hentai play that found its true expression in strip clubs and the Japanese adult video industry? Is it the product of kinky perverts trying to make a living doing bondage at the end of the Showa era as bondage magazines\, stage shows\, and VHS video started to become increasingly available? \nIn a way it is all of those things and more. Every story that is told about the history of kinbaku has something to teach us about what it is we do today. This presentation is not the history of Japanese rope\, but rather a history. In that sense it is much more personal reflection and interpretation rather than history per se. \nIt is also an invitation for everyone who attends to write their own history of kinbaku\, to find the stories that are meaningful and that resonate in a way that can give meaning to your own experience and practice and to imbue it with a richness that can make your connection to rope more meaningful and more personal. \nMy story is one of discovery. Starting with computer bulletin board systems in the 1980s\, where I saw my first images of kinbaku and which ultimately led me to Japan in 2006 to start my studies of kinbaku. Along the way\, I have amassed a collection of books\, videos\, ephemera and memories and have had countless discussions with practitioners in Japan that has led me to dig deeper into the question \n“What is the heart of kinbaku?” \nMy story begins with the stories of three men\, Ito Seiu\, Minomura Kou\, and Tsujimura Takashi and how their lives\, as well as their styles of rope\, created the basis for much of what we call kinbaku today. Along the way\, I discuss Osada Eikichi and the invention of the kinbaku stage show\, Nureki Chimuo’s Kinbiken salons\, Urado Hiroshi and Pink Eiga films\, Akechi Denki and the evolution of rope styles\, and Yukimura Haruki’s style of caressing rope.\n \nPLEASE NOTE THAT EVENT TIME IS 7pm PACIFIC TIME. His personal collection includes more than 700 Japanese books and magazines on kinbaku and over 1\,000 videos\, including some of the first publications of Japanese erotic rope bondage.He has spent time studying rope (and kinbaku photography) with Urado Hiroshi\, Naka Akira\, Chiba Eizo\, Murasaki\, Ibarako\, Sugiura Norio\, and Osada Steve in Japan and in 2013 was accepted into Yukimura Haruki’s school as Haru Yutaka and became the 5th person to be given an instructor’s license to teach Yukimura Ryuu. In 2017\, he was accepted as a student in Miura Takumi’s Bakuyukai dojo in Sugamo\, Tokyo. He is the founder and head instructor of LA Rope\, a teaching space in Los Angeles\, founded in 2011. LA Rope hosted the first workshops in America to be taught by Japanese instructors (Yukimura Haruki in 2012 and Naka Akira in 2014). He is the founder and editor of the online rope publication KinbakuToday.com and is the author of Discovering Kinbaku: What my Adventures in Japan Taught Me About the Art of Erotic Rope Bondage (2019).

SUMMARY:Shibari for Sex: Rope Class\, BBQ\, and Play Party
DESCRIPTION:As traditionally practiced in Japan\, shibari is primarily considered an erotic activity.  This class emphasises that erotic nature of rope bondage\, focusing on three different ties that can be used for sex.  Attendees should be comfortable with explicit discussions of sexuality and display of nudity.  The class is open to all genders\, orientations\, and body types.  BDSM Mentors is sex positive and LGBTQIA+ inclusive. \nThe three ties that will be explored are: \n\nMomo Shibari (Peach Tie)\nKani Shibari (Crab Tie)\nTengu Shibari (Heavenly Dog with leg ties)\n\nStudents should bring their own rope (4 lengths of 8m rope\, natural fiber such as jute\, hemp\, or cotton) as well as something suitable as a floor covering (yoga mat\, blanket\, comforter).  We will have rope for sale at the event ($20 a length) and a limited number of yoga mats (first come first served) that can be used in the space. \nThe class will be held from 3:00 to 5:00\, with plenty of time for play and practice.  In the interest of time\, we ask that couples not switch during class\, though there may be time to do during the practice time at the end. \nFollowing the class\, BDSM Mentors will host a BBQ (Hamburgers and Hot Dogs with some sides) until 7:00 p.m. \nAt 7:00\, our Rope Party will begin and last as long as people want to stay and play.  This is a great opportunity to try out the new ties or engage in any other BDSM play you want to engage in. \nThe class will be taught by Zetsu\, the owner and operator of LA Rope\, an experienced shibari instructor who trained in Japan under Grandmaster Yukimura Haruki.  He has been teaching shibari since 2011 in Los Angeles. \nThe class is open to all members of the BDSM community and is a LGBTIAQ+ inclusive event.  All ties are suitable for all bodies\, genders\, and orientations.

In this class\, we will walk through the basics of how to construct a rope scene from before the ropes go on to after they come off. \nOne of the most powerful aspects of kinbaku is the ability to create layers of intensity\, allowing the bottom to build up a natural flow of endorphins and adrenaline\, allowing the scene to reach deeper levels. We will discuss the process of building your scene\, bringing the various elements together\, and the psychology of a rope scene\, including connection\, communication\, distance\, and pacing. \nThe class is divided between lecture/discussion (first half) and exercises for building rope scenes for the second half. \nA great rope scene is more than the sum of its parts. DESCRIPTION:Following CDC guidelines\, all attendees will be required to show proof being at least 2 week past their final vaccination date. \nRope Play or Nawa Asobi is held each Tuesday of the month from 8 to 10 at the LA Rope Dojo. This class is our introductory class which covers background and history\, rope information\, and two basic ties. \nThis class focuses on the fundamentals and is perfect for the beginner. The previous intro class is recommended by not required. \nBeginners always welcome. We have rope to loan for class as well as for purchase. It is recommended you come with a partner. Individuals are welcome but we can not guarantee a tying partner will be available. \nCost: $25 per person\, in advance. No tickets at the door. SUMMARY:Special Topics: Yukimura Stye Predicament Ties
DESCRIPTION:This is a class on crotch ropes/ties and neck rope (Matanawa\, 股縄\, Kubi Nawa\, 首縄).  One common technique in Yukimura’s style of shibari involves the concept of connection or linking (Renketsu\, 連結) different parts of the body together to emphasize eroticism and control. \nLike most Yukimura ties\, the constructions are basic and simple\, but the ties gain power from how they create a strong emotional and psychological effect. \nOne of the key techniques for doing that is connecting different parts of a tie together and two of the best places to do that are with crotch ropes and neck ties\, which have the effect of giving every movement an erotic charge or connection. \nThis class introduces both the philosophy and technique of “linking” to show how you can create simple ties with powerful effect\, with the basic constructions all being one rope ties. \nFor this class we will explore six different ties that show various methods for linking and connecting part of the body together. \nStudents must be comfortable with crotch ties (e.g. having rope between the legs)\, neck rope\, and engaging with erotic elements of shibari. \nThis is an intermediate level class and requires a basic understanding of wrists ties\, body positioning\, and effective communication between partners. \nStudents should come prepared with at least one 8m rope to be used for crotch ties or be prepared to purchase one at the dojo (rope is available for $20 per length for 5mm or 6mm rope). \n
